“The Secrets of the Santa Barbara Show”

Jim Sloniker has been growing orchids for 38 years. He received his first orchid as a gift from a friend of his grandmother when he graduated form high school. He graduated from Loyola Marymount University and use to frequent Stewart Orchids and Arthur Freed Orchids - actually the first orchid that he received as a gift was a cymbidium that had come from Arthur Freed Orchids. He grows both in a greenhouse and outdoors and has a collection of cymbidiums, paphiopedilums, cattleyas, phalaenopsis species, and a mixed collection of other species and hybrids.  He is both an Accredited Judge for the American Orchid Society and the Cymbidium Society of America. He is on the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show and the Orchid Digest Corporation. He also is an assistant editor for both the Orchid Digest and the CSA Journal.

Jim is an accountant and lives with his wife Becky and two children in Ventura.
